Customer Reviews: Absolutely nails New Haven! August 3, 2010 houhau (Eugene, OR) This compendium of reviews is thoughtful, honest, highly readable, well-edited, and astonishingly accurate. While flippant in treatment of lesser establishments (but never mean spirited), it shines when it comes to better restaurants - bestowing praise as much as encouragement to keep raising already high standards, even higher. My girlfriend and I love this book, and I can't think of a resident, or transient Yalie, that wouldn't find this to be an invaluable and frequently loaned possession. (There's also an online, subscription version, that we haven't checked out).
So, definitely a tip of the hat here, and as a former Oregonian, I'm pleased to see the Fearless Critics have descended on Portland as well. My one wag of the finger: we need a 4th edition! The landscape of carts at the med school have already shifted, and, I'm hungry for new reviews (especially of Formosa, and Shanghai Bistro on Boston Post Rd.)
If you loved The Menu, you'll love Fearless Critic New Haven...the same, only better November 2, 2009 MobiusKarl 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the only restaurant guide to New Haven, and it's awesome. Very cheeky, very honest. When I was in school at Yale it was called "The Menu," basically my bible. Now it's about twice the size, covers Guilford/Branford/etc...great book.
