5 out of 5 stars Excellent atlas, perfect price!   June 7, 2009

I bought this Atlas for our trip to twenty-one states this summer. I am very pleased for a few reasons.

Pros:
* Excellent price! This is cheaper than more popular brands such as Rand McNally.
* It's spiral bound. Don't let the information above (and picture) fool you. It may have a soft cover but it is spiral bound. This is a serious plus. When you go to fold it over you won't have to argue with stapled spines.
* Large and fairly easy to read (see also Cons). It details all states and divides states up into regions (either North and South OR East and West; some even have all four divisions such as New York) so you can see even more of it clearly.
* Has city zooms. Like other popular brands it has city zooms so you can see tourist points in most major cities. Each city zoom also has a space for notations off to the right.
* Gives state information such as capitol, nickname, etc. Also has each State's flag. (See also Cons)
* Has mileage charts for each state, as most do.
* Has a national driving time map over Interstates and US Highways.
* Lists the website for the popular 511 (traffic information) state list.
* Has points of interest within the map as well as a "guide" at the beginning of the book.

Cons (I can only think of two and I had to think very hard to come up with that one):
* Has a time zone absence. Each state needs to have a time zone map. Especially something like Arizona and so forth who march to the beat of a different drum when it comes to times.
* Print could be a little bigger or at least drop the "easy to read" brag. The book touts that it is easy to read. That's true for the most part, but it's only easy to read if your sight is fairly good. Maybe that's supposed to be a given, but if that were the case then they wouldn't need to claim how easy it is to read.

All in all I love this atlas. I even have a GPS, but this is helpful just in case. It's definitely comparable to others and for the price for a 2010, it's great on the pocketbook. We'll use this one for a long time.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to read!   September 23, 2009

Nice large maps with text that is sized for easy reading. It's nice to have a GPS but I always like to have a paper map available to get an idea of where I am suppose to be going. Every once in a great while the GPS makes an error and I've had to look on a map to make sure I'm going the right direction.

The spiral binding makes handling easier. The only downside is that book is not light and in a small vehicle may be hard to store out of the way. However, the ease of use outweighs the downsides.

I purchased this atlas for a round trip across America (VA-CA-VA). It is very helpful. Several times our GPS went wrong but thank the atlas for the catch! It labelled a lot of the scenic drive and that makes our trip wonderful.

5 out of 5 stars Love the Large Print   February 22, 2010

I'm so glad there is an atlas available using a large scale. The print is so much easier to read that I should of bought this along time ago. My husband can drive as I navigate the map to our destination. I am also glad I bought the copy with the spiral binding. I now don't have to worry about the pages becoming loose or torn. It is definitely worth having for all you travelers. You won't be disappointed.
